Our mid-summer Relax & Indulge Holistic Wellness Weekend brings together good food, yoga and meditation in a tranquil countryside setting. All this is combined with luxurious accommodation in our impeccably converted 18th Century stable yard and house. The weekend is perfect for beginners and those with established holistic lifestyles. .
This Friday to Sunday retreat is based around healthy, fun living, where you can develop a deeper understanding of the ethos of organically growing your own food; reconnect with nature through guided and solo walks in our renowned gardens and woodland; expand your consciousness with yoga and meditation; and savour deliciously healthy tasting menus inspired by the bounty from the garden and farmland.
We are delighted to welcome traditional Hatha yoga practitioner Alana Klineberg to Burtown. Alana, who Joanna first met in Goa, is a wonderful person to lead the yoga and meditation for this holistic healing weekend. Dermot Carey is a renowned grower who uses organic principles and is an inspiration to many.
Joanna Fennell, who lives at Burtown with husband James, daughters Bella and Mimi and little William, is passionate about wellbeing, health, visual aesthetics, great food and good times. Historic Burtown House & Gardens has been the family home since 1710. The ten acres of flower, woodland and kitchen gardens have developed over time.
The Green Barn is a large authentic Scandinavian inspired Irish ‘farm to fork’ restaurant overlooking the walled kitchen garden. With almost all of the produce grown onsite, the ethos of working with the seasons continues , allowing nature to dictate what we eat.
We look forward to welcoming you on Friday afternoon for tea and check in to your chosen rooms, anytime after 3pm. Accommodation is set between the big house, the stable yard house and the studio apartment. Friday evening will begin with a yoga class followed by summer cocktails in the kitchen garden and by a delicious dinner in The Green Barn set facing our organic kitchen garden.
Saturday starts with a healthy juice and a walk through the wildflower meadows, with yoga and meditation, followed by brunch at The Green Barn and with time to explore and relax.
For lunch we will stop for a delicious seasonal lunch in the terrace gardens.
3pm - 5.30pm An introductory walk and talk with Dermot Carey & Joanna Fennell on the benefits of growing your own, touching on health, diversity of produce and the many advantages of growing your own.
7pm Summer Cocktails on the terrace of The Green Barn followed by a 5 course tasting menu showcasing the very best of our seasonal produce. Vegetarian and Vegan options available. This will be accompanied by specially chosen organic wines by Joanna and further followed by a fire ceremony in the gardens.
Sunday - Early morning Yoga in the sundial garden followed by Brunch at 10am. This will be followed by a walk through the gardens and farm lands. Guests are free to leave or stay for lunch in The Green Barn and enjoy the remaining day and night, if you would like to chill out and book in for a 3rd night just let us know.

The Studio apartment is located in the old stable yard and has views to the orchard and kitchen garden. It is a high ceilinged and bright space with big windows and great views. It has a shower room ad small kitchenette. There is a mezzanine with a fireplace and seating area, as well as an outdoor terrace.

Wendy Walsh’s botanical paintings and 18th century furniture and heirlooms west facing, with views over the gardens, there is a shared bathroom with shower and a second bathroom with cast-iron bath.

Sleeps 1, 2 or a couple. Also situated on the 4th floor, this was once the school room where the children were tutored. For the last 50 years it has been a large west-facing bedroom with fine views over the courtyard, gardens and beyond. It is full of interesting books, Wendy Walsh’s botanical paintings and 18th century furniture and heirlooms. There is a shared bathroom with shower, and another bathroom with a cast-iron bath.

It’s a bright and airy room with a double bed, and a lovely old world feel with paintings and artefacts. Located behind a bookcase off the sitting room, this is on the ground floor facing south and has a stable door to a terrace. With interesting interiors and a double bed, it shares a bathroom with Bella & Mimi’s room which boasts a rain shower and a double ended bath.
