Carlow Snowdrop Month

Snowdrops

Snowdrop Month is here and we are delighted to be part of The Carlow Snowdrop Month running from Thursday 1st - Thursday 29th February.

This is one of the best times of the year to come visit our gardens as they come to life in early February with large swathes of naturalised snowdrops sweeping down the front avenue underneath the old horse chestnut and beech trees, in the old island woodland garden, and naturally throughout the flower gardens. There is also a more recent planting of a specialised snowdrop bed. In addition there are many collections of hellebores, early spring bulbs and perhaps one of the largest carpets of aconites which form a canopy under the old horse chestnut trees at the front of the house and are slowly naturalising down the front avenue. This is perhaps one of the largest gatherings of aconites in Ireland and the UK.

Garden visitors can stop for coffee, tea, fresh scones, sweet treats as well as warm soups and toasted sandwiches at the newly opened Jo’s Pantry & Cafe. Our outdoor cafe seating area is heated and covered and can seat up to 32 people. The Green Barn Restaurant is also available for a more relaxed dining experience serving brunch Wed - Sun 09:00 - 12:00 and lunch Wed - Sun 12:45 - 15:30 Booking is advised. For those garden visitors that want to stay the night we also offer luxury accommodation onsite in our Stable Yard House and Studio Apartment.

It is also a wonderful time to visit our neighbouring gardens; Altamont Gardens, Huntington Castle, An Gairdín Beo, Arboretum’s Inspirational Garden and Shankill Castle.
